Merlin, a gentle giant Great Dane, has been visiting us regularly for ongoing aftercare following specialist surgery for severe pododermatitis affecting his hind paws.
Recovery from paw surgery can be a long process, especially in giant breeds, and Merlin has been an absolute superstar throughout weeks of dedicated treatment, bandage changes, medications, and careful wound management.
At the beginning of his recovery, his paws were extremely sore with significant discharge and inflammation, requiring frequent dressing changes every few days to keep the wounds clean, protected, and healing well. Our nursing team worked closely with Merlin’s dermatology specialists, adjusting his dressings and treatment plan as his wounds progressed through healing.
Over time, healthy granulation tissue developed beautifully, inflammation reduced, and the areas between his toes gradually began to heal.
We’re so pleased to say that at his latest bandage change, the proud tissue had resolved well enough for both hind limbs to finally be left undressed, with ongoing topical treatment to continue at home.
Merlin has now officially been signed off from his bandage care treatment, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far he has come.
A huge well done to Merlin’s dedicated owners for their commitment throughout his recovery journey and of course to Merlin himself for being the bravest boy every step of the way
