Welcome to Hugo’s fracture repair journey.
This little fella came into our clinic with a complex Y fracture to his elbow. A Y-fracture is a severe fracture of the distal humerus(elbow joint) where a break extends between the inner and outer condyles, separating them and creating a ‘Y’ or ‘T’ shape on x-ray.
After assessing his pre-op X-rays which confirmed the Y fracture, we discussed all the options with his owner, who wanted to do everything possible to save his leg and prevent any amputation.
This little guy needed complex surgery to repair his fracture. It required several techniques to repair the fracture. His fracture was reconstructed using wires, plates, and screws to stabilize the many pieces of his fracture.
It is not the easiest fracture to repair, and it is complex. Despite the difficulties, we were able to stabilize the joint to give this little fella the best chance to recover.
🏡The plan for Hugo after his surgery is:
• Strict crate rest for 7 days
• Lead-only toilet breaks
• Pain relief and antibiotics on board
• Recheck in one week
Fast forward a few months, and this little fella is now signed off 🎉. His post-op checks are all clear, and he is now allowed to return to normal activity.
